San Francisco Half Marathon Win (2009)

Background:

Tera Moody of Boulder, Colorado, was fifth in the U.S. Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials in Boston in 2:33:54 – a more than 12-minute improvement on her Trials qualifying time of 2:46:40 for ninth place at the 2007 Chicago Marathon. Her earlier marathons, also in Chicago, had been a 2:52:02 in 2006 and 2:50:08 in 2005. But some results early in 2008 had suggested Moody might be ready for a big personal best at the Trials; she’d been seventh in 1:13:05 at the Houston Half-Marathon in January and sixth at the USA 15K in Jacksonville in 52:35 in March.

At the University of Colorado, she was a solid cross country performer who was part of her team’s NCAA Championships performance in 2000. In high school in Illinois, she was a two-time state champion in the mile.

Tera Moody placed in the top 12 at the Illinois cross country championships all four years of high school (placing sixth, fourth, second and 12th), then went on to compete for the University of Colorado. In 2000 she was a scoring member of the Colorado Buffalos NCAA champion cross country team. Since graduating from college she has completed three marathons, most recently placing ninth at The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon where she ran 2:46:40 to qualify for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Women’s Marathon.
